If disfellowshipping was abolished...
by iamwhoiam in...what would it accomplish?.
a few thoughts running through my head.... 1. the kingdom hall would be open to people who were originally df'd for apostasy, and therefore opening the door for debate without consequence (e.g.
people spreading thier ideas freely within the cong without fear of being df'd/banned).

I still would never go back to the Kingdom Hall. I'm pretty much anti-religion, period.
If I was approached by old friends and family, I would have an open door policy. Just because they shunned me, doesn't mean I have to stoop to their level. A sincere apology would be in order, however, and I would accept.

Why you love America
by jamesmahon init struck me, as i guess it has a lot of people, that there are so many threads from both americans and the rest of us that seem to descend into america bashing.
i thought it might be quite nice to have a thread solely (and i mean solely - if this just turns negative i will call foul) on what we think is great about america.
as a brit who has lived and been over a number of times there are many parts about america that i think are great and thought is would be healthy to have a positive thread for a change.. so a starter for ten (with a few gross generalisations thrown in):.

while rainey was walking down the drive-way, roop pulled up in his pickup truck and asked why rainey was at his house.

Makes you wonder. This obviously a case where a mentally unstable person was allowed to own guns. Not really a case for gun control, however. This guy very likely would have found a way to obtain guns (private personal sale; black market; etc.) regardless.
